Minutes of the Annual Meeting of the Western Michigan Yachting Association
August 5, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by Commodore Ted Keller.

Steve Schiller moved that we forgo the reading of the minutes from the Annual meeting 2008, motion was seconded and approved. Joan Manny then read the minutes from the fall 2008 board meeting. Steve Schiller motioned to accept the minutes as read, seconded by Brian Wrase and approved.

Treasurers Report: Joan Manny passed out the treasurer’s report for the period 8/5/2008 to 8/4/2009. The WMYA net worth at this time is $21,432.59.  The large increase from last year is due to $11,000.00 of donations by the newly created Lifetime Membership category. Kevin Haviland made a motion to approve the report, seconded by Wrase and approved.

Report of Officers: Commodore Ted Keller reported that the turnout for this year’s event was fantastic.  There are 16 Optimist prams, 62 Butterflys, 39 Lasers, 51 MC scows, 13 Melges 17s, 14 C scows, and 23 E scows. This is a record turnout. Ted thanked all of the members of TLYCC for their efforts.
Kevin Haviland reported that SLYC would host the regatta at SLYC August 11th-14th, 2010. Mark Wipper reported that CLYC would be the host August 4th-7th, 2011, and Steve Schiller reported that MYC would be the host August 9th-12th, 2012. Dates for the 2013 regatta at WLYC are yet to be determined. This concluded the officer’s reports.

Old Business: Joan Manny noted that the newly elected Junior Delegates were in attendance and thanked them for their participation.  Joan noted that Melges 17 fleet was off probation due to 13 registered participants this year. Joan also gave an update on the recently approved 501C3 Nonprofit approval for the WMYA. Tom Munroe noted that Doug McNeil did all of the legal work and thanked him for his help. It was noted that the Lifetime Membership category raised over $11,000.00 so far with another $1000.00 just received and $3000.00 more in verbal commitments that have not yet been received. A discussion on continued fund raising and how to use the funds to promote sailing ensued.  The Board agreed to discuss these ideas further at the fall Board meeting.

New Business: It was noted that Augusta dropped it's membership.  Next years Annual Meeting would be held at SLYC at 7:00pm on August 10th.  Jack Rillema noted that everyone who registers to sail can and should attend the annual meeting. The format of the regatta was discussed and it was confirmed that it is up to each club to determine whether the regatta runs from Wed. – Saturday, or Thursday – Sunday. The idea of polling the participants on what they wanted was brought up. The board agreed to discuss this further.

Election of Officers: The following officers were elected for 2010.

Carl Reid – Secretary, GRYC
Ted Keller – Past Commodore
A motion was made to elect these officers, it was seconded and approved.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40pm.
